The “Don Diego” area is in the Mexican Exclusive Economic Zone, in the Bay of Ulloa, on the west coast of Baja California Sur, between Abreojos and Cabo San Lázaro. The closest point of the proposed dredging is 22,224 meters from the western coast . The project does not overlap any fishing concessions as defined by CONAPESCA, nor does it interfere with any natural protected areas or RAMSAR sites.
A fraction of the project’s area lies within the Fourth Prioritary Marine Region. The Environmental Impact Assessment includes the project’s commitments to protection and conservation, reflected in extensive scientific research and the compliance of a series of measures designed to reduce direct and indirect impact on both biodiversity and processes that determine the ecosystem’s well-functioning.
